Why is the District Considering These Proposals?

The cost of providing fire, emergency medical, rescue, and fire-prevention services continues to change.  The Fire District must plan for both the recurring costs of providing emergency services every day and the long-term cost of maintaining and replacing apparatus, equipment, and facilities.

Among the issues currently being evaluated by the District are:

• Growth in emergency call volume
• Changing staffing availability
• Increased reliance on full-time personnel
• Rising personnel and benefit costs
• Replacement of aging apparatus & equipment
• Repairs and improvements to Fire District facilities
• Existing debt obligations
• Maintaining adequate financial reserves for future capital needs

The District's current planning information shows that emergency call volume has increased by more than 30% over the past ten years. The District has also experienced declining availability of part-time personnel, resulting in greater reliance on full-time staffing.
