• As of January 2026, the East Dundee Fire District has achieved an ISO Class 2 rating through Insurance Services Office, LLC (ISO)/Verisk.
• This Class 2 rating places the East Dundee Fire District in approximately the top 7% of fire departments nationwide, when compared with departments that have achieved either a Class 1 or Class 2 rating. 
• This achievement reflects the Fire District’s continued commitment to providing high-quality fire protection, emergency response, staffing, training, water supply coordination, fire prevention, and community risk reduction services.
• Achieving a Class 2 rating demonstrates the District’s ongoing dedication to improving public safety for the residents, businesses, and visitors we serve.

WHAT IS THE PUBLIC PROTECTION CLASSIFICATION (PPC) PROGRAM?

ISO collects information on municipal fire-protection efforts in communities throughout the United States. ISO analyzes the relevant data using our Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS). We then assign a Public Protection Classification from 1 to 10. Class 1 generally represents superior property fire protection, and Class 10 indicates that the area's fire-suppression program doesn't meet ISO’s minimum criteria.  

By classifying communities' ability to suppress fires, ISO helps societies evaluate their public fire protection services. The program provides an objective, countrywide standard that helps fire departments in planning and budgeting for facilities, equipment, and training. And by securing lower fire insurance premiums for communities with better public protection, the PPC program provides incentives and rewards for communities that choose to improve their firefighting services.
